I *was* going to say something along the lines of “Rik & Ade fans, brace youself for some bad news,” but I didn’t want to give the impression that their band was getting back together.

From today’s Daily Mail:

“After a 20-year comedy partnership with Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson has had enough: ‘This tour is the last one I’m going to do with Rik. I think Rik and I have now reached an age where the next stage is still a few years down the line. There’s probably a great sitcom for us in about 20 years about a couple of grumpy old men in an old folks’ home. We’ve always known that and talked about it, but for now it’s time to stop.’

“He steadfastly maintains that he and Mayall haven’t fallen out - they’ve just changed.”

Rik & Ade are two of my favourite television people, so the news is saddening. But I am fortunate to have seen their last live show and am glad to know they’ve gone out with a bang. A rather large bang at that.
