The first thing you do with a door handle is you do not look at it

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004 at 7:16 pm

I didn’t go to Racodac this morning, as a lie-in somehow felt a better option. When I did go in, I helped Yazz Y. with her Typography project for a fair while. I would’ve made a start on mine, but I still haven’t decided whether to do mine still or moving image. Hmmm.

Going in later, I didn’t leave for home until a bit later than I normally would. To make up the lost-time, like. I walked a fair bit with Emma K, got some money out of the bank, and finally got myself a bus pass. I’m not too happy that it says “CHILD” on it, but the price did please: £15.40 for a whole month.

To think I’ve been spending £10 on bus fare per week. That’s damned annoying.

What will you do with yours?

Looking around the room in software training today, not many people were doing any work. (Read my thoughts on Hob McD’s blog here - they were posted as things happened.)

Throughout the day, I conversed with Zehra A. via electronic mail. This was most fun, as usual. And in one of the many forums that I frequent, I found the following highly amusing:

Homer Simpson’s Ode to Beer:Dough, the stuff that bought me beer,

Ray, the guy who serves me beer,

Me, the man who drinks my beer,

Far, the distance to my beer,

So, I think I’ll have a beer,

La, la la la la la beer,

Tea - no thanks I’m drinking beer,

That’ll bring us back to…

(looks into empty glass)

DOH!

Ah, isn’t that excellent?!

I stayed for I, Robot at The AFS tonight too. I’d been wanting to see it for ages. It didn’t disappoint.

In a bit of a pickle

I was in a bit of a weird mood last night, as I really didn’t know what to do with myself. Oddly, neither the computer nor the television appealed to me. And that’s saying something.

I did go on MSN Messenger twice though, not that I stayed for very long on either occasion.

Columbo today wasn’t one of the better ones. In fact, it seemed very un-Columbo.

Other than that, I’ve been battling with adware & spyware whilst doing a sort of exploded diagram explanation of a 17th century painting for Context Studies homework due this Wednesday.

And I’ve got loaaads more work due these coming weeks.

Oh, Wizard!

I’ve just watched Five Go Mad In Dorset again and as always it was utterly brilliant.

Now to clean my fish-filter.

There’s nothing for you here

On the way home today, I saw two chaps dressed similarly to forensic examiners (white suits, masks, latex gloves et cetera) moving to a cordoned off plastic-sheeted area on a road’s corner. And what looked like blood was everywhere.

However, nearing the crime scene, it became clear that the two were in fact re-painting one of those old-fashioned red (British) telephone booths. But that itself was pure excitement!

Gazpacho Soup Day

I didn’t get to Racodac today, as there was a road/traffic accident on the main road and the police weren’t letting any traffic come through. I.e. No bus to take me there.

Instead, I did a colossal amount of research for my comic book Storytelling project at home. Then I wrote another review of the Red Dwarf V DVD for a film review website.

When showing my little-little brother a small section of the showdown in the House of Blue Leaves in Kill Bill Vol. 1, the title music from The Legend of Zelda replaced the audio output because something I was previously doing on my computer had crashed. And it sounded really, really good. In synch and all.

# Internetting, across the universe

Wednesday, November 24th, 2004 at 9:50 pm

# In Internet Explorer, instead of doing work.

Wasn’t today productive? No, I don’t suppose it was either.

I could’ve gone to Racodac for 2:00 PM, but I didn’t want it to look as if I was staying at home to finish my essay. So I went in for 10:30 AM and spent the bulk of the day Internetting.

At 2:00 PM I had Context Studies with Sian. I didn’t enjoy it as much as usual because the lack of excitement in the preceding three-and-a-half hours made me feel quite sluggish. Sitting in the dark didn’t help either. Mind you, I did sit on the other side of the Lecture Hall, so the day wasn’t completely without excitement.

Another cracking episode of The Bill tonight, even though I did fathom out the abductor’s identity weeks ago. And it’s amazing what they manage to cram into an hour.

Austrian film director, Fritz Lang…

I typed five words of my essay last night then realised that I’d left the brief in my bag downstairs. So I turned off my computer and went to bed.

When I got up this morning, I started on my essay pretty much straight away. It took me three hours to write the opening paragraph. But what a paragraph it is. Shame about the rest of the essay. Nah, the rest of it is up to scratch. I’m just most impressed with the introduction.

All in all, the essay took eight hours to write - and that’s rounding down. I am passionate about my work, but I think I spent a little *too* long on this piece and it’s not even my best. Out of practice, you see.

In other news: Atul K. is back! I wonder if he’s grown(!) a large beard and started wandering about on school playgrounds.

Yes, is there something wrong?

The bus is on time this morning. The bus stops when I signal. I board the bus. The bus drives off. All is going well. The bus goes down the road. The bus goes down another road. And another. And then another.

The bus gets caught in a traffic jam. The bus doesn’t move for TWENTY minutes. The bus starts moving. The jam is due to road works. The slight similarity to the events of Ghostbusters II amuse. But not for long.

I get off the bus five minutes before I am supposed to be in for software training. I am not very happy. I walk VERY quickly, almost running to Racodac. I get in five minutes late. The session is postponed by thirty minutes. I am not amused.

I sit in same seat from 10:10 AM until 4:45 PM. I get up once to return two film noirs to the library. Training is on Adobe Illustrator. I use Internet throughout. I have email conversation with Zehra A. I have difficulty logging in to new website I am to run with others.

Nobody notices my “Sheriff Blake” badge. I go home at 4:45 PM. I was going to stay to watch Shaun of the Dead. I don’t because a) I have a headache, b) I’ve been sitting down for most of the day, and c) I already own it on DVD.

I come home.
I blog.
I stop typing like this.

Now I’m going to watch/make notes on The Maltese Falcon, as I aim to start writing my essay tonight. Depending on how much of it I get done, I may have the day off tomorrow, as that’s all I’d be doing at Racodac anyway. That and sit about on the Internet. At least at home I can comfortably do so in nothing but my pants.

She tried to sit in my lap while I was standing up

Today I’ve been running off more copies of film noirs for this essay due on Wednesday. (The Maltese Falcon & The Big Sleep if you’re interested.) I didn’t watch the former at the time, as Columbo was on.

As for The Big Sleep, I remember now why I never watched all of it during AS Film Studies - because it’s as boring as… something not very interesting.

I would dig out some of my old notes for this essay, but I packed them away in the loft thinking that I was done with them. I mean, it’s not every day that you re-visit work that you did some time ago, is it?

Oh, it is.
