My new monitor has now been ordered. Excellent.

I’ve started working on the relaunch of toilet roll internet alongside the launch of my new Dwarf news site. At present speed and course… we’re gonna be doing something else.

I, erm, fell asleep the other night before putting on Eternal Sunshine… So I watched it in the early hours of this morning and it was good. Really good.

Jim Carrey wasn’t over the top. (See also: The Truman Show.) Actually, he’s brilliant in this. As is Kate Winslet. And everyone else come to think of it.

The special effects were excellent too – all the more impressive knowing that the use of digital effects was limited, that most of the effects were created using camera trickery. It’s the sort of thing that I want to have a stab at doing at some point.

All in all, a great little film with a wonderfully told story.

More shed-roof-felting today. And a spot of gardening too. Well, those TFT monitors don’t come cheap, do they?

Also, I’ve got a bit of a tan from yesterday’s efforts. Believe me, I’m as shocked as you.

I’ve spent the day helping my father felt a shed roof in a garden that looks beautifully *just* like Edward Scissorhands’ creator’s garden. (Shaped trees/hedges and all.)

And now I’m going to bed to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, as I realised last night that I bought it months ago and never bothered watching it.

Ricky Gervais’ and Stephen Merchant’s Extras took me by surprise. I saw The Office the first time round and hated it. But it slowly grew on me and I’ve come to really like it. Extras, however, I was sure I wouldn’t like – purely because of the big name stars appearing to sell the sitcom as a star vehicle. But now that I’ve watched all six episodes I have to say that I’m rather impressed.

As with The Office, though, I don’t regard it as a proper sitcom – more as a sort of drama comedy. And as a drama comedy, the stories were told well and got many a laugh in all the right places. Furthermore, the programme didn’t rely on the big celebrities that much at all. In fact, the strongest episodes in my opinion were the ones that featured the celebrity-of-the-episode the least.

Plus of course, we got to hear Kate Winslet talking dirty. The saucy bih.

Dried blood

I’ve just found a dead scab in my bed. I don’t remember forming one of late, but it can’t have been there for very long, as it tasted quite fresh.

Save the clock tower

NTL exploded on Saturday due to a bolt of lightning, which not only disrupted digital television in the downstairs living room but also (more importantly) has seen me going without a proper Internet connection for FOUR DAYS.

Some NTL chap did call by yesterday to replace the set top box. But as well as forgetting to plug the Internet cable into the new box, NTHell HQ disabled our connection their end. Then the help desk operators insisted that we changed our network settings – messing up our home network - when all THEY needed to do was push one of THEIR buttons. (We know this because they admitted THEIR FAULT last night, after my father spent TWO HOURS on the phone to them. The gits.)

Thankfully, the Internet is up & running again today, so I don’t have to squint at my mobile phone for a www fix any more. Thank the lord.

Two police helicopters have been circling the area for fifteen minutes. Now that I live in a loft, the noise is far louder than ever before. So much so that I keep thinking Kevlar-clad men are going to bust through the roof on ropes and nick my Red Dwarf collection.

Or remove my penis.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy film was brilliant, I thought. I adore the books, but I could never get past the clunkiness of the television series. So the film has greatly improved on my visual interpretation of the story as well as being great in its own right.

It’s also prompted me to re-examine the television series, as I was only eleven years of age the last time I saw it. I’m certain I’ll be able to see past the clunkiness now (what with me being really mature and all) and enjoy Hitchhiker’s on another level. Don’t get me wrong, though - I’ve a great fondness for the television series. I just think I could appreciate it a whole lot more.

Back to the film, as I’ve only heard bad things about it and want to defend it…

The casting was spot on. I’m not sure what John Malkovich’s character was doing. Or Anna Chancellor’s for that matter. But nevertheless - everyone suited their role perfectly. Simon Jones’ and the television Marvin’s cameos were also nice touches. As was the very, VERY ending to the film. (I won’t say more than that in case you haven’t seen it yet. But it *will* bring a lump to your throat when you do.)

Plus of course it’s very British, which I think matters a great deal.
