Zovirax

The third new series of Doccie Who opened tonight with aplomb. Billie Piper proved to be an asset to the last two series, but I warmed far more quickly to Freema Agyeman tonight than I originally did with Piper. (Because we want to has a lot to answer for.)

I can’t say I’m massively looking forward to next week’s episode; its title is awful and it seems an obvious move after the Dickens episode previously. I’m sure it’ll cut the mustard though - just doesn’t look particularly enticing.

Myspace

Thursday, March 29th, 2007 at 10:31 pm

I hate Myspace - and all social networking sites come to mention it. But a while back I discovered that each main Skins CHARACTER has a profile there.

I’m ambivalent as to whether I think it a good thing - it certainly extends the realism. But come on, they don’t actually exist. Hats off to Channel 4 for an innovative marketing tactic but people are buying into it, seemingly believing the events of the characters seen on screen happened in reality to the people (characters) of the profiles.

It’s no different to kiddie-fiddlers setting up fake accounts and posing as characters they’ve invented of themselves. Apart from the interfering with children bit. Look but don’t touch anyway. (I’m joking!)

The BBC have now made a profile for Martha Jones - going as far as writing a couple of blog entries on her life before meeting the Doctor. It really is quite… interesting, I suppose - being able to extend the universe of fiction in such a way. But it seems a bit pointless to me - on a social networking site anyway; Gareth’s page on the original The Office site worked well but because it didn’t take itself too seriously.

Set the Boosh - loose - about this hoose

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007 at 4:41 pm

The Mighty Boosh have just got in touch with some rather splendid news:

“We are currently writing series 3 from our Boosh headquarters 4 miles under Shoreditch. It’s going well. This time, it’s set in a shop and it involves magic eels, flying teeth and a moccasin called Stephen. We can’t tell you much more than that because we haven’t finished it yet. We start filming in May and it should be on your TV screens later in the year. Perhaps late summer. Or Autumn. Maybe early winter.”

Oh yes.

There’s not been a gathering like this in our lifetime

The At World’s End trailer released today has got me all excited. This year is shaping up to be an excellent one for big screen treats. Wizard! (And pirates! And spiders! And turtles! And… erm… John McClane!)

Freak accidents

Today is going well. I’ve just broken my last working Xbox controller and then my “must buy” ultrasonic screwdriver toothbrush thing (which came complete with interchangeable heads) in the space of ten minutes.

And now I’m getting a seemingly random error message keep popping up that closes Explorer.

Das ist nicht gut.

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

I’ve now seen all of the Doctor Who trailers for the upcoming series. I stand by what I said previously in that the previews thus far all feel flat, lacking of any substance. But the new full trailer on BBCi and red button services looks… wow.

It has definitely caused more of a stirring. In my pants.

Skins

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 at 11:16 pm

E4/Channel 4’s heavily publicised Skins proved a real treat - and that’s putting it mildly.

You could see the ending (Tony) coming a mile off but it didn’t stop the finale from being any less incredible. And dare I say it: moving.

I’m not normally a fan of the genre - sappy high school rites of passage drama - but the storylines, writing, comedy, casting and production values on this were extraordinary; I was hooked from day one.

Besides what I’ve just said though, I think the main reason I fell in love with the series is because I experienced this stage of my life only yesterday. And in many ways I’m still at *that* stage of my life. Just without all the alcohol, drugs, promiscuity and swearing. Because I’m a good boy, yah?

Sun Hill E1 4KM

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 at 9:14 pm

The Bill was very London-specific tonight. ’twas odd, they don’t often leave the fictional London suburb of Sun Hill and when they do it’s normally suggested through dialogue - the scenes being filmed without reference to specific locations.

It definitely added something to the episode, if only a greater sense of realism. I wouldn’t want them to do this all the time, but it was a treat.

Good Neighbours?

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007 at 9:02 pm

They’ve only gone and brought back episode titles for The Bill.

Just so long as they don’t resort to ridiculous wordplay like Neighbours did - one of many reasons why I can’t bring myself to watch it any more.

Recycling heaven

Today has been a day of mixed emotions - but all in all a good day. I didn’t go to bed until 5am and was up again by 7am to get all of my animation work together for submission at noon.

I don’t like leaving anything to the last minute but I’ve pushed my ability further & further with each Rave project so wind up working on the finishing touches as late as the night/morning before.

After the frantic dashing about and then missing the early bus, I texted Zehra A. to see how all was going her end. A tree had fallen on her train-line meaning it impossible for her to get to Rave by train for the deadline. So she’d hopped on the hourly bus in the middle of nowhere (where she lives) to the middle of another nowhere (not far on from where I live).

By pure chance, she was literally two minutes away from passing my stop on the opposite side of the road. Embarking on a journey to the unknown, her face was a picture the moment she recognised me standing there - more so as she got off the bus and made her way towards me.

Sharing the journey was what we both needed after our separate struggles for weeks on end. Though admittedly Zehra’s struggle *just* to make it in put my stress of the morning into perspective.

We made the deadline with plenty of time to spare and were then briefed on the next project. No rest for the wicked, eh?

Excellently, while helping a couple of mates in Convergence with their projects afterwards, Jordan A. relayed “Paramount really love you, Blake.” from a telephone call to his missus who’s on work experience there.

I was really hoping I’d made a lasting impression - they certainly seemed pleased at the time. But having heard such a comment from them almost a year later has filled me with hope for the near future. What with me supposedly entering the working world very soon and all.
