I didn’t see past the staaarta

Sunday, April 15th, 2007 at 11:07 pm

I’ve written some cracking post titles for this here blog but I think I’ve raised the standard with this one.

When I first saw the trailer to 300 I thought it was an advert for a computer game. When I realised it was a film I wanted to see it, swayed by the stunning visuals. But having struggled to see past the first twenty minutes earlier, things weren’t looking good.

I think I lasted thirty-five minutes all in all; it was really boring and life’s too short to stick it out. So a jam doughnut with Ambrosia Devon Cussie in bed it is for me now, and I’m going to watch Chalk instead.

Mission accomplished

It’s three years later, but I finally found it.

Another fine example of suture on this here blog. It’s almost as if someone writes this stuff.

Because I can

Not that I normally bother with New Year’s resolutions, but for this coming year I’ve decided not to worry about missing out days on this here blog.

I’ve always tried to keep things fairly amusing - even when the post is mainly about the events of my day. But this whole blogging experience has always been for my benefit - so that I can look back on my writings, much like a diary, and think: “What a tosser.”

The fact that so many other people read my blog and also think: “What a tosser,” is just a bonus.

Anyway, it’s no real biggie. I’ve just decided to post as & when in 2006. To keep things cutting edge.

Impotence

Ha ha! A slightly dodgy link, this – it’s a website about erectile dysfunction. But go there anyway and do a search on that page for “Blake”. Go on.

Update (23rd-Sept-06): It’s not there any more. But my blog was listed as a learning resource for those suffering with lack-of-erectionness.

It’s not a gift you lose.

Be sure to keep a look out for all new ::BigBlake:: and ::BigBlakeBlog:: site Easter Eggs. There are a whopping three scattered about at present and I’ll be adding more soon.

Four two nine one

I know that most of the time I’m a bit of a moany old git. But truth be told, I’m not actually that old. (I’ll put my hands up to the other two, though.) In fact, other than when I’m feeling tired I do feel rather youthful. Thinking back some months now, that’s probably what this was all about.

Anyway, watching films like The Goonies earlier, which brings childhood memories flooding back, I do end up feeling significantly older than my years - but young at the same time.

Where most people use songs to mark points in their lives (think: “they’re playing our song”), I have always used films. This has probably got something to do with the fact that, other than film/tele soundtracks, I’ve never really liked music.

Whatever, I know that everyone marks memories in some form or another; aside from watching films, this here blog does exactly that for me. And more often than not, I include ‘hidden’ messages as undertones to trigger even more memories when I read my posts back.

Coming back to The Goonies, a film released the year I was born, it is one of few films that successfully represents a general overview of my young memories & values - as opposed to marking a specific event. I’ve not even seen the film more than five times, yet to even think of it creates a magical sentimental feeling.

It’s also the only film that I love so much but, other than the novelisation, I don’t actually own. This is so that between airings on the tele, I can build up to seeing it again. You know, allowing it to keep the same sparkle it had when I first saw it some fifteen years or so ago.

When the film started today, for example, hearing the first opening notes of the soundtrack really got me going. So much so that I’ve treated myself to a listening of it whilst typing this post. For inspiration, like. And it worked, only what I wanted to say hasn’t come out as clearly as it appears in my head.

That’s memories for you, I suppose - unless they’re shared, they’ll never mean quite the same to anyone else.

Come rain or shine we’d always make time for curry night

Every Friday.
Saturday.
Sunday.
Tuesday.
Wednesday.
Thursday.

The golden rule when offering a service, so I am told, is assuming that your audience is stupid. I, however, shan’t be so pretentious in my ways and will idly throw into conversation that I spent several hours last night/this morning implementing a new design to this here blog.

After going to sleep (and having awoken again, of course), I tidied my bedroom for what I believe to be the first time in 2005. It looks ruddy good. But then it didn’t really need tidying in the first place.

Forgetting all of that for one moment, my hopes that the rest of the weekend would be similar to the events of yesterday have already started to come together; Other than tidying my room, I’ve been taking it easy. Furthermore, I’ve just had a chicken tikka masala and now I’m retiring to my bed to watch a video or DVD.

There are some things money can’t buy. For everything else there’s MasterCard. (Although technically, money did buy everything that I just mentioned. But you get the idea.)

I’ll now go and scrub my sprouts

Site updates aplenty, today. In fact, I’ve actually modified every single page in some little way. Not that anyone will consciously notice these changes.

I’ve added colours to vlinks, changed copyright guff, added content and cleaned up both the HTML code & the CSS. Most excitingly, they now both validate!

Never applaud a movement - not even in a hospital

I’d a bit of a lie-in this morning, as I was watching recordings of the week’s tele until quite late.

When I got up, I mooched about for a fair while before settling at my computer. And I’ve pretty much been here since.

So what have I been doing? Well, I’ve been playing about with the ::BigBlake:: logo and planning things for a MAHUSSIVE site update tomorrow.

I suggest you check back then. Ooh the excitement!
